Well 4362 must be a new revision, since even 2.6.14 hasn't heard of it,
and it it isn't listed, the driver won't even try to touch it (even if
it would work just fine).

Apparently a newer version of the sk98lin driver now has support for it,
but it is not included in the kernel yet (at least not as of 2.6.14).
It can be gotten here:
http://www.syskonnect.com/syskonnect/support/driver/htm/sk9elin.htm

Of course you need to have the system installed before you can go and
get the kernel source package and patch it with the new driver and build
that.

Bug#345603: Install report: failed to detect ethernet card (Marvell Yukon)

2006-01-02 Thread Christian Perrier

Installer could not detect my ethernet card, a Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E
Gigabit Ethernet Controller card. There are Linux drivers available for
 this card, found at
 http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=107pId=10. Ubuntu
Breezy 5.10 installer identified this card without a hitch. It can't
possibly be difficult to include; please add support for this ethernet
card; new computer just isn't the same without my Debian! Thanks!

Please provide us with the output of (lspci ; lspci -n)|sort and the
name of the driver that should be loaded.

The output of this command is below. What do you mean, the name of the
driver that should be loaded? According to the readme it replaces(updates?)
the sk98lin module (a SkyNet Gigabit Ethernet driver), which Debian already
includes. Is this what you're after, or did I misunderstand the question?
Sorry.

There's this driver from syskonnect that claims to support the Marvell card
also, but I couldn't find a license. I suppose it's too much to hope that it
just happens to be GPL-compatible, but here it is for your review anyway.
I'm not perfectly sure this one will work with the card, either, actually.

http://www.syskonnect.de/syskonnect/support/driver/htm/sk9elin.htm

If it can't be included in Debian, could it be made available as a separate,
clearly marked nonfree download? I noticed that the installer lets you
select driver modules if it can't find one automatically, and the last
option is 'none of these' which lets you insert a driver floppy. Can the
Marvell driver be packaged as such a floppy and offered for download
separately somehow?
