Package: wpasupplicant
Version: 0.4.7-4
Followup-For: Bug #355052

The "restart" option of the init.d script works more like a broken
"toggle". Here's an excerpt of a shell session:

$ sudo /etc/init.d/wpasupplicant restart
Stopping wpa_supplicant: done.
Starting wpa_supplicant: process already running.
done.

$ sudo /etc/init.d/wpasupplicant restart
Stopping wpa_supplicant: No wpa_supplicant found running; none killed.
done.
Starting wpa_supplicant: done.

$ sudo /etc/init.d/wpasupplicant restart
Stopping wpa_supplicant: done.
Starting wpa_supplicant: done.

$ sudo /etc/init.d/wpasupplicant restart
Stopping wpa_supplicant: done.
Starting wpa_supplicant: process already running.
done.

$ sudo /etc/init.d/wpasupplicant restart
Stopping wpa_supplicant: No wpa_supplicant found running; none killed.
done.
Starting wpa_supplicant: done.

$ sudo /etc/init.d/wpasupplicant restart
Stopping wpa_supplicant: done.
Starting wpa_supplicant: process already running.
done.

$ sudo /etc/init.d/wpasupplicant restart
Stopping wpa_supplicant: No wpa_supplicant found running; none killed.
done.
Starting wpa_supplicant: done.

At this point the last two states just repeat. I really didn't have the
drive to find out exactly where the problem is. I think I remember
person who posted this bug originally might have included a patch for
some of the problems. If I get a chance to look into it, I'll come back
with more.
