Hi,

I'm experiencing the same problem (locally login as root, get the motd and then the login prompt again).

I can still login as root using SSH.

My nsswitch.conf has:

passwd: files ldap [UNAVAIL=return]
group: files ldap [UNAVAIL=return]
shadow: files ldap [UNAVAIL=return]

If I change the group line in nsswitch.conf to:

group: files

I can login OK at the console.

If I change it to the original line, it prevents login.

Group information from LDAP seems to work ok: "getent group" returns the full group information. Also, SSH doesn't seem to have this problem. So I'm not sure this is an nss-ldap or a login bug.

Greetings,
