 Hi Michael,

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ll /proc/bus/usb/002/002
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 57 2006-07-04 13:42 /proc/bus/usb/002/002

udev no longer touches /proc/bus/usb, so this is in fact expected. The
USB device nodes are now located in /dev/bus/usb; it's the default
path for libusb, so as long as the permissions are correct here,
everything is working fine and as expected :)
Thanks for the hint.

I just got back to the machine and plugged the scanner in and everything
is working fine. I'm not sure what happenend. I made several package
upgrades in the past, but I couldn't figure out which one cause this
behaviour.

Anyway, I think this bugs can be closed. Thanks for your patience and
help.

Bye,

Michael

Hi,

I did a fresh install of Etch yesterday. Plugging in my HP6300C
libsane (or udev) seems to fail to set correct permissions on the device.
Upgrading libsane to the latest version in unstable didn't solve the
 problem.

Works for me here. Could you check that there's a
/etc/udev/rules.d/025_libsane.rules symlink to ../libsane.rules on
your system ?

Thanks,

JB.

 An 'll /etc/udev/rules.d/025_libsane.rules' gives:

 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2006-07-06 09:54
 /etc/udev/rules.d/025_libsane.rules - ../libsane.rules

So this should be ok, but the permission problem remains. Is there
any information I could provide, that could shed light on the problem?

Run udevmonitor and plug in your scanner, to check that udev gets the
event. There's no reason it shouldn't get the event...
