Are you calling mdadm's init script directly instead of via invoke-rc.d from postinst? (I'm just guessing - make-fai-nfsroot fails, apparently because mdadm's init script is being called, which should obviously not happen since I'm preparing an nfsroot. Haven't investigated as I don't use sw-raid in this setup.
