Thanks, Roberto No, drkonqui is the crash-reporting apps for kde, so you cannot automagically report this bug to the upstream, but is not the cause of the crash you are expirencing. the crash of kmt cames from the the line after: KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.. Are you using kmobiletools in a non-KDE environment? Can you try to build the latest version of kmobiletools? you can find the deb-src on http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=kmobiletools . Thanks. Ah, shame on me :) the crash of kmt cames from the the line after: KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.. Are you using kmobiletools in a non-KDE environment? Yes, I am using Xfce. Is it one of those apps that needs KDE to run? Can you try to build the latest version of kmobiletools? you can find the deb-src on http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=kmobiletools . Done. I am still experiencing weird behaviour and crashes, at different times. What am I looking for? Make it run stable on !KDE? All the best, Rob Ok, I can't test KMobileTools on a non-kde environment right now, so you should wait untill i came back to home :) Anyway, can you install kdebase-bin and send me the backtrace of kmobiletools from drkonqui? TIA Francesco After trying it again it seems it works. Meaning: if I plug my phone and then I run kmobiletools then I can browse SMSs and phonebook. However, if I first start it and then plug the phone (as I did last time) I get a crash. Backtrace attached. Good luck and no worries, I am not in a hurry, and next week I'll be damn busy so... take it easy :) Ciao! Rob (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library /lib/libthread_db.so.1. retitle 389129 hangs on non-kde environment (cannot reach kdeinit) thanks On Sunday 24 September 2006 19:24, Roberto Pariset wrote: After trying it again it seems it works. Backtrace attached. Good luck and no worries, I am not in a hurry, and next week I'll be damn busy so... take it easy :) Ok, I'm happy that you can get it work with a little workaround for now :) I'm not able to reproduce that crash, but and unfortunately that backtrace is useless, since there aren't debug symbols, I'm sorry but you have to rebuild again the packages adding a --enable-debug=full to debian/rules (the attached patch will do this for you, use it with patch -p0) and send me the new backtrace of the crash. Upstream also told to check in the configuration if there are something related to polling of the devices, and if so, to disable it since on the 2.6.x kernels the usb-serial drivers have some problems.
