Bug#406403: gnome-panel: Apps, Places, Desktop and right click - do not work

Bug#406403: gnome-panel: Apps, Places, Desktop and right click - do not work
Dear Josselin, Thanks, this looks pretty much like a bug that was fixed in ORBit 2.14.4. Could you try again with the liborbit2 1:2.14.4-1 package from unstable? I am using now Etch and Etch is not stable yet and bug report is related to Etch. If I try with that version of liborbit2, will that be inclued in Etch? I am asking that because I am interested to have next stable distribution and not unstable or testing. Thanks. Armando -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Dear Josselin, Thanks, this looks pretty much like a bug that was fixed in ORBit 2.14.4. Could you try again with the liborbit2 1:2.14.4-1 package from unstable? I have tried that: sudo dpkg -i liborbit2_2.14.4-1_i386.deb (Reading database ... 197104 files and directories currently installed.) Bug#406403: gnome-panel: Apps, Places, Desktop and right click - do not work
Dear Josselin, so far I had some success in seeing the applications in gnome-panel: - I was logged in as user A, than I have opened terminal, xhost +, su as other user (B) in login shell, exported DISPLAY, then I have delete ALL hidden directories as user B and run gnome-panel. Suddenly I could see applications in the menu. After I logged out and logged in again through gdm into Gnome session as user B, I could not see the Applications, it was empty. I tried deleting all hidden directories and running gnome-panel again, but nothing appeared. Further, I came back as user A into IceWM session, and repeated the same process, xhost +, su as user B, exported DISPLAY and deleted all hidden directories as user B and run gnome-panel. NO APPLICATIONS showed. Then I repeated again, restarted gdm killed all process, also restart computer, tried again as user B to see the Applications menu but nothing was there. Loggin as root or any other user in Gnome does not show Applications menu. I had some success, after deleting some panel configurations, deleting .gconfd/saved-state and some accels, basically directories which were formed when I COULD SEE APPLICATIONS first time I logged in as user B, then I got panel which I could use, add application, use the right click and so on. However, Applications menu is empty. Panel works fine, without applications. Armando -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello, I am sending you the gdb output from the command you recommended. Note that gnome-panel did not start visibly. I have not seen anything. Further, before that, I deleted .gnome2/session And I am using Etch, testing, and I think the upgrade process is wrong because there is this bug. This bug cannot be just handled by switching to experimental, you get idea? Gnome-panel had no Applications before, and now there is no sight of life on Applications, Places and Desktop. Using right click on panel does not show anything. I can see one applate (mini windows) working, but I cannot hide the panel and do anything with it. This is probably because the panel or one applet is hanging somewhere else. If this ever happens again, please run in a separate terminal: gdb /usr/bin/gnome-panel `pidof gnome-panel` ... (gdb) thread apply all bt and send us the output. If the bug is reproducible with the 2.16 version from experimental, you can get a more meaningful output by installing gnome-panel-dbg. Otherwise, for unstable, you may need to rebuild a debugging version of the panel, like explained in http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace Thanks, GNU gdb 6.4.90-debian Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
