Package: wodim
Version: 9:1.1.2-1
Severity: normal
I accidentally had too much data to backup, and the ISO image my
scripts generated was about 750 MB. I guess that's over the limit (my
CD-RW discs are rated at 700 MB), and wodim realised that. However,
it failed to inform me about that, and chose to give me the following
error messages:
+ wodim -v archives.iso
wodim: No write mode specified.
wodim: Asuming -tao mode.
wodim: Future versions of wodim may have different drive dependent defaults.
Quickly guessing the name of a drive capable to write DVD-R, please wait...
Unable to guess the target drive. Please specify manually using
dev=... argument or other configuration methods, see wodim(1) for details.

For possible targets try 'wodim --devices' or 'wodim -scanbus'.
For possible transport specifiers try 'wodim dev=help'.
For IDE/ATAPI devices configuration, see the file README.ATAPI.setup from
the wodim documentation.
wodim blank=fast works fine without a device specification, and
bringing my ISO image back to a more reasonable size results in the CD
being written. If that can help, here are the lines in kern.log
documenting my CD-RW drive:
