Bug#413392: linux-image-2.6.18-4-686: system freeze for `trident' video driver + `pop art squares' screen saver
Teodor wrote: However, with the latest kernel (now in testing too) v2.6.26-10 I'm getting from time to time a X/kernel freeze when I'm trying to return to my X/gnome session from screen saver (random selected). Only my work station is affected (i386) and it didn't happen with any of the previous versions, so it seems like a regression introduced in the last build (-10). Does this system run an Intel graphics adapter? Yes, it does. Is this a known bug? Does the 2.6.26-11 (or the current -12 image) fix the problem for you? Since I was the only one reporting it and there is no way I can do more tests, I thing the bug should be closed. The following report has the same effect but under different circumstances, affecting 'lenny' only. I didn't filled a bug report knowing from this previous bug (almost 2 years ago) that without the knowledge to debug it with a serial connection or netconsole module it will be in vain. I didn't had the time to learn this yet, maybe a wiki page would help for those that are not kernel developers. Thanks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. If you can tell me how to do that I would be glad to offer more information so that this bug gets corrected. are your running latest xorg? i've seen that on matrox card with some interminent xorg version. Yes. I had the latest xorg* software installed until yesterday. I've notice today that a new version is available (build -15) and will make the upgrade and see if the problem persists. I think that still there is a *kernel* problem too, besides the *xorg* problem (if any). The OS must not freeze on any circumstances, no matter how buggy a running process is. Also, the problem might be from the video *driver* and not the *kernel*. Does this error still occur with more recent kernel/X.org versions? Hello- Can you ssh into the box after it locks up? If so please attach the output of `dmesg`. If you can't ssh into the box start something like this before launching the screen saver: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/root$ sleep 60; dmesg out.txt; shutdown -h now This will sleep for 30 seconds, capture the kernel output and shutdown the computer. So hopefully it will capture output from the kernel after X has locked up. Otherwise, can you test a 2.6.20 kernel to see if the problem reproduces there too? Also, attaching your xorg.conf would be helpful. Cheers, Brandon -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
