I even tried to force-remove (dpkg --purge --force-all) both of the packages and re-install them afterwards (after doing apt-get clean just in case). But I got the very same messages... This is all because the following file: /usr/share/python-support/python-gtk2/pygtk.py which used to belong in the python-gtk2 package, is present on your system but isn't registered as belonging to any package. If you remove it, things should install fine. The question is, how did it land here? In the previous python-gtk2 version, it was a regular file and should have been removed upon upgrading. Which means, either you have done something wrong with your system, or there is a bug in dpkg - which is, happily, not so frequent. Cheers, -- .''`. : :' : We are debian.org.
