Bug#424883: poor image quality compared to upstream's version

2007-06-18 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Harald Dunkel [EMAIL PROTECTED] (17/06/2007):
 Hi Cyril,

Hi Harald,

 I would suggest to keep the BTS on CC. Here is the output for
 using -v:

sure, sorry for that, but I had to re-send some mails due to some
MAILER-DAEMONs I received, and bounce them, forgetting the Cc's.

Anyway, about our problem, it looks like the xlib plugin, which is
apparently used by the pango one, isn't built correctly. It sounds like
some breakages in the configure.ac/configure, since after patching them
(needed for the next uploads and new features) and rerunning autoconf
stuff, that's OK.

I'll be closing this bug through the changelog of the next revision.

(BTW, you can use the current .orig.tar.gz and the git repository on
git.debian.org if you want to give a try to the next revision.)

Cheers, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi again,

does the following file contain an libgvplugin_pango.so.3 cairo entry?
  /usr/lib/graphviz/config

It says:

:
:
libgvplugin_pango.so.3 cairo {
render {
}
textlayout {
}
loadimage {
}
}

Looks pretty empty to me. I have kicked it out and ran dot -c again,
but I got back the same empty configuration.

Due to an upstream (reported and now fixed) bug, the pango plugin is
built but might miss some configuration.

If such an entry is lacking, could you please try and run dot -c (as
root), which will update your configuration, and report back?

(Also, if this file contains such an entry, it might have been added
when you installed upstream's versions, if not in /usr/local.)

Upstream's version has been installed in

/usr/local/stow/graphviz-2.12

It has its own config file.

This is also address in the development packages, but I would like to
make sure what your problem is.

If you have something new to try, then please send me a ping.

Regards

Harri

Hi,

Harald Dunkel [EMAIL PROTECTED] (17/05/2007):
 I don't want to complain, but there seems to be some quality
 difference between the output generated by Debian's dot and
 upstream's version. See the attachments, for example.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I believe that when you're compiling graphviz,
you have pango/cairo devel libs installed, and that the pangocairo
plugin is built, which provides you with AA and beautiful graphics. Due
to #422862 and #422873, I disabled it until a new package is added
providing this plugin -- so that one can choose not to depend on many
other libs when installing graphviz.

See related bug #422859, in which the submitter asked for such a plugin.

Cheers,
