Indeed. I've removed tmmath and hvmath from TL. Thanks.

Tagging as fixed in upstream in our BTS.

Bug#433329: Please clarify whether Lucida Bright/Lucida Sans fonts are supported

2007-11-27 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi Karl

I am coming back to old old emails...

Unlike some of the others, they are separate on CTAN and part of psnfssx
rather than psnfss, so it was feasible to do that.

What about the other things in psnfssx: tmmath, hvmath? Should we do the
same there?

Best wishes

Norbert

As far as I know, the Lucida metrics are not included in TeX Live 2007.
Frank or anyone, if there's an issue for TL here, please explain.

The metrics are not included, but the LaTeX style and fd files and some
documentation is there, in collection-fontsrecommended (as part of
psnfssx).

Maybe this could be moved to collection-fontsextra, since the fonts
themselves are not included.

Oh yeah. The place to fix this is psnfssx; I'd prefer to have the
Lucida styles/docs removed too, but it doesn't make sense for TL to do
something different than CTAN here. I haven't yet written the
maintainers (not even sure who they are -- Walter Schmidt maybe).

Maybe this could be moved to collection-fontsextra, since the fonts
themselves are not included.

Sadly, I see no rational way to split up psnfssx.

Thanks,
karl

Wouldn't it be the case for having the support files for non-free fonts
to be in contrib here? If I learned it correctly, I think that is the
purpose of the contrib section. Is that right?

Quite correct. But if the contrib data is too small, it doesn't make
sense to create a whole new package for it. It would make sense if the
package they are currently part of would *as a whole* *only* be usable
with non-free stuff, but I don't think this is the case here.

Bug#433329: Please clarify whether Lucida Bright/Lucida Sans fonts are supported

2007-07-16 Thread Richard Atterer
Package: texlive-fonts-recommended
Version: 2007-10
Severity: minor

Hello,

texlive-fonts-recommended contains the following files related to Lucida
Bright fonts:

/usr/share/doc/texlive-fonts-recommended/latex/psnfssx/lucidabr.txt.gz
/usr/share/doc/texlive-fonts-recommended/latex/psnfssx/lucfont.tex
/usr/share/doc/texlive-fonts-recommended/latex/psnfssx/lucfont.dvi.gz
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/psnfssx/lucidbrb.sty
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/psnfssx/lucmin.sty
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/psnfssx/lucidbry.sty
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/psnfssx/luctime.sty
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/psnfssx/lucbmath.sty
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/psnfssx/lucmtime.sty
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/psnfssx/lucidabr.sty
/usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/latex/psnfssx/lucidabr.txt.gz
/usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/latex/psnfssx/lucfont.tex
/usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/latex/psnfssx/lucfont.dvi.gz

All this suggests that it is possible to use Lucida Bright under Debian.
However, I get errors trying to use the font (e.g. typesetting lucfont.tex
above). After googling for hours, I am still scratching my head - could it
be that the font is non-free and thus not supported? After all, there's no
trace of any hls* file in any of the TeX packages. Then why are these files
present??

I suggest to document that it is not possible to use the fonts under
Debian, preferably both in README.Debian and in
/usr/share/doc/texlive-fonts-recommended/latex/psnfssx/lucidabr.txt.gz

Alternatively, the above files could be removed from the package ...unless
there is an easy way to install the non-free fonts - can they be downloaded
somewhere?

Cheers,

  Richard

Yes - this should probably be fixed by including
CTAN://fonts/psfonts/bh/lucida/doc/fonts/lucida/readme.lucida:

,
| This distribution contains the TeX fonts metrics, virtual
