And why is that needed? (Especially since OOos files are zip-files anyway)? A lot of people send by email single Word document into a zip file, for sharing during redaction. The compression allows the size to stay acceptable for the mail servers, but at the same time if add complexity by forcing users to zip/unzip documents. If OOo was able to open directly documents into a zip archive, it would save time and lower the complexity for the end user (no more « how do you open the document ? »). This could be done by using already existing zip tools on the computer (at least for UNIX-like systems) and by adding a filter. Best, LT-P

The compression allows the size to stay acceptable for the mail servers, but at the same time if add complexity by forcing users to zip/unzip documents. If they use stuff like Word (and if you accept them) you have lost anyway. You just should tell them a) not to send word documents b) if they do, not zipped. Id b) is not possible because the files are too big they should use something sane which doesn't keep years of history in the file. If OOo was able to open directly documents into a zip archive, it would save time and lower the complexity for the end user (no more « how do you open the document ? »). Again, this is a matter of education. People who see zips should know that they need to extract them. This could be done by using already existing zip tools on the computer (at least for UNIX-like systems) and by adding a filter. I don't believe that makes sense (and I do believe OOo upstream - which would need to implement this - believe the same. Grüße/Regards, René -- .''`. That takes time, and is nearly all the time a political decision in a company. So this approach, however good it is, is not often possible. I don't believe that makes sense (and I do believe OOo upstream - which would need to implement this - believe the same. I think it does; that's why I am adding it to the wishlist. But the rest is for the community to decide. Best, LT-P

But the rest is for the community to decide. Can you then please file a bug upstream (as I won't argument for it and it was your suggestion) so it gets filed where it belongs? (And probably will never implemented, given that more imprtant stuff than this is being lost in the black hole requirements - where ENHANCEMENTS like this go...). And please tell me the issue nr then so I can mark this as forwarded... Grüße/Regards, René -- .''`.
