thanks

sorry for that.
I didn't expect twinkle works like that. of course i tried 'host
81.169.145.87' which lead to 'w87.rzone.de' which is absolutely unknown to me
(it must be from my provider 'Strato').

i think, this bug can be closed.

Is there a way to dial an IP directly without name? Or should I open a
wishlist 'bug'?

You don't need to open another bug report, I'm downgrading and retitling
this report instead.

Bug#454115: on pc-to-pc twinkle sends INVITE to unknown IP 81.169.145.87:5060 (registrar not configured)

2007-12-03 Thread Tim Rühsen
Package: twinkle
Version: 1:1.1-2+b1
Severity: normal

am trying to connect pc-to-pc (as described on the twinkle homepage, but
without using name - so i just enter the destination IP 192.168.0.101 for
example).
I just enter the desired IP an hit 'Dial' which results in '503 Service
Unavailable'.
In the log i find that twinkle contacts the IP 81.169.145.87:5060, no matter
what IP i selected.
UserProfile/SIPServer/Registrar is empty and 'Register at startup' is off.
'Use Outbound Proxy' is off.
NAT: 'NAT traversal not needed' is on.

Apparently twinkle thinks 192.168.0.101 is a telephone number, not an IP
address, and it got translated to 1921680101 and your domain name is
appended resulting in [EMAIL PROTECTED] When sending the
INVITE request to [EMAIL PROTECTED], twinkle looks up the IP
address of openmediasystem.de, which is 81.169.145.87.

the snom300 phone is reachable only without a name. i can test that with e.g.
ekiga or linphone (address is sip:192.1.11.92). a name leads to '404 not
found' message from the phone.
