Please remove the file hdf5-H5public-openmpi.patch and the line in the debian/rules install-openmpi target which applies it. It could cause breakage and should not be there. Sorry about that! I have a some packages I'd like to upload which use this, and would like to start to port them sooner rather than later. That is, unless you're planning to just stick with 1.6.x for the lenny release...
