It doesn't :(

Once it worked, once it failed but output a lot of debug information by
itself (but I had forgotten to start script). All the other tries failed
like before.

I applied this patch and built and installed the new package.

I tried 1 time continue old project -> no problem
1 time new project (1 prj. already existing) -> no problem
2 times rm -r ~/websites and then new project -> error

One of the backtraces was exactly like the last one. I include the other
one.

For next tries, I'll accept your offer to send me .deb directly, because
creating the new package takes a long time here, and there is also the
possibility that I make a mistake.

Thanks.
Carlos.

Darn! Not a good first impression I presume :p

It happens every time I try to
download that site. I tried now with

Okay, this is probably a difference with my glibc.

Yes, but the message is slightly different (51 files written instead of 50):

Okay - anyway this confirm my feeling (the uninitializing is bogus)

#8  0xb7f3991f in verif_backblue () from /usr/lib/libhttrack.so.2

Ahah! verif_backblue() is using opt->state.strc.lst (a FILE*), which has
a copy in another place (cache.lst), and which is being closed, and set
to NULL, but not the copy (opt->state.strc.lst is still != NULL even
after the file closing)

This is the probably explaination of this horrible bug (trying to write
to a free'd FILE* object)

If you can, rebuild the sources using this patch:

Or I can provide you a .deb package if you want to give it a try.

Thanks for the complete stack trace, which was really helpful (I spent
two hours before that, trying to reproduce the issue without luck - my
glibc is definitely nice when dealing with corruptions!)

That was my first try of the program :). It happens every time I try to
download that site. I tried now with
  http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath

I pressed "Abort". After confirmation, the process died.

Going back to try to download the original, to answer the questions...

> - is the mirror made valid ? (open the index.html file in the project

Yes! I didn't check it before, sorry. It seems to be downloaded all right.
(I didn't check file by file, but since the next answer is yes, I suspect it
is complete.)

Yes, but the message is slightly different (51 files written instead of 50):

HTTrack Website Copier/3.41-3 mirror complete in 18 seconds : 50 links
scanned, 51 files written (418205 bytes overall) [264644 bytes received at
14702 bytes/sec], 237080 bytes transfered using HTTP compression in 15

I include backtrace provided by gdb.

Thanks.
Carlos.

Well, actually, not. I tried to reproduce the issue multiple (10) times,
using the regular version, and using valgrind, but still can not make
the server crash nor detect really worrying memory errors (such as
double free or bad memory write). I also tried with several other sites,
with no luck.

- is the mirror made valid ? (open the index.html file in the project

- does the hts-log.txt logfile inside your project folder finishes with
the line "HTTrack Website Copier/3.42 mirror complete in ..." ? (in this
case, I suspect a subtle race condition at the program end, during some
library cleanup)

Typically, on my side, I have the lines:

HTTrack Website Copier/3.42 mirror complete in 15 seconds : 50 links
scanned, 50 files written (335840 bytes overall) [181651 bytes received
at 12110 bytes/sec], 237080 bytes transfered using HTTP compression in
15 files, ratio 28%

This an "important" bug actually (the problem is only impacting a
specific site) based on debian scale.

(see )

But anyway this seems to be a random double free, which impacts specific
sites.

I start webhttrack;
when the browser appears I press "Next";
I enter project name "CalendarFAQ", and press "Next";
I enter URL above using "Add a URL" button, and press "Next";
I press "Start".

The issue is currently under investigation, thanks for the feedback.

Bug#471188: webhttrack: dies while downloading

2008-03-16 Thread Carlos
Package: webhttrack
Version: 3.42.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I try to download this page (and children):
  http://www.tondering.dk/claus/cal/node1.html

I start webhttrack;
when the browser appears I press "Next";
I enter project name "CalendarFAQ", and press "Next";
I enter URL above using "Add a URL" button, and press "Next";
I press "Start".

Downloading starts and some moments later, it dies (browser can't connect to
remote server).

Messages on the console:

samara:~$ webhttrack
/usr/bin/webhttrack(20329): launching /usr/bin/x-www-browser
/usr/bin/webhttrack(20329): spawning regular browser..
/usr/bin/webhttrack(20329): waiting for browser to terminate..
/usr/bin/webhttrack: line 154: 20344 Segmentation fault ${BINPATH}/htsserver

/usr/bin/webhttrack(20329): nasty signal caught, cleaning up..
/usr/bin/webhttrack: line 171: kill: (20344) - No such process
/usr/bin/webhttrack(20329): ..done

(the first 4 lines appear, I press ^C and the other 3 appear.)

Thank you.
