Bug#472468: RFH: bash-completion -- programmable completion for the bash shell

2008-06-11 Thread fvulto
Hi,
I'd also like to help. I already have worked out some ideas about
splitting up bash completion:
- completions all reside in separate files
- the completions are loaded dynamically - all completions initially go
through a function '_comp_load()' - first time only
- DejaGnu is used for automated testing
- it scales

See:
- http://code.google.com/p/bash-completion-lib/ (source)
- http://fvue.nl/wiki/Bash_completion_lib (homepage)

I'm halfway adding all completions from bash_completion and I'm curious
what your thoughts are about the project and if it's the way to go?

The next step would be to patch bash to include two features, see:
http://groups.google.com/group/gnu.bash.bug/browse_thread/thread/281698132559a422/47217d83d4308d4e?lnk=gstq=vulto#47217d83d4308d4e
Then bash-completion-lib can be improved to be truly dynamic - without
the need to define all the commands to complete on... :-)

Regards,
Freddy Vulto

I added you to the project.

Thanks!

It would be great if you would want to handle the move of the repository.
More details will follow in private if you acknowledge you want to do that.

Where is it currently hosted?

Thanks,
David

After the repository has been moved, it's just a matter of incorporating
the last uploads in the repository and start fixing bugs :-)

I do want to share ideas about the possibility of splitting more of
bash-completion's functionality to /etc/bash_completion.d/ though...

Thanks already.

Cheers

Luk

I request assistance with maintaining the bash-completion package.
Upstream has handed over the maintenance, so working on the package is
 also working on upstream...

I'd like to help where possible :)

2008-04-18 Thread Luca Falavigna

Hello Luk,

I'd like to help out with bash-completion. It is widely used in Ubuntu
too, and there are some patches which can be easily merged. I can look
at outstanding bug reports and eventually submit a new revision to be
reviewed. Please, let me know. Thank you!

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request assistance with maintaining the bash-completion package.
Upstream has handed over the maintenance, so working on the package is
also working on upstream...

I've set up an alioth project to coordinate, but the import of the
history and current state still needs to happen.

Any help with the initial setup as well as continued bug triage and/or
co-maintainership is welcomed.

The package description is:
bash completion extends bashs standard completion behavior to achieve
complex command lines with just a few keystrokes. This project was
conceived to produce programmable completion routines for the most
common Linux/UNIX commands, reducing the amount of typing sysadmins
and programmers need to do on a daily basis.
