If you read the POSIX specification, this is conformant behavior. POSIX specifies that the '.' is not localized to ',' so that there is no ambiguity in function calls, as in f(2,3,4). Please see http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009604499/utilities/bc.html
