Bug#499629: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#499629: Bug#499629: texlive-latex-extra should be recommended dependency
Hi, Dara Adib wrote: = It's a suggested package. This is used to declare that one package may be more useful with one or more others True, again, but why is Iceweasel also marked as a suggestion? It's a web browser, and it's useful to have a web browser if you compile your documents to HTML, so that you can view them. The reason why iceweasel is listed explicitly is that the package format requires virtual package dependencies to have at least on concrete example, hence iceweasel | www-browser. -- Pelle -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi, Dara Adib wrote: It's not in my position to judge whether a package deserves to be suggests or recommends, but it is still appears to be a problem that integrals don't work. As Georg explained, they do work, but you need to disable esint. -- Pelle -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Although I agree that it's very unfortunate that integrals don't work without it. Maybe this bug should be reassigned to texlive, and esint asked to be moved to texlive-latex-recommended or texlive-fonts-recommended or something. Integrals work fine without esint. Simply set the use esint setting from auto to off. The problem is that the look of many integrals is inconsistent without esint. It also depends on whether you use wasysym and/or amsmath (and in which order you load those packages). IMO, the esint package is a must for everybody who uses more than just \int. OTOH people who dont use more specialized integral symbols or even math at all will never need the esint package. If there was a texlive-math package I would put esint into that package. texlive-latex-recommended might be too strong for non-math users, texlive-fonts-recommended is wrong IMHO because esint is not only a font, it fixes other packages. IMHO the current status is not too bad: If somebody actually uses an integral that triggers esint, he will get a LaTeX error. If he does not know esint, he can find some information in the documentation, and then eithwer switch off esint or search for it in the package database, and install the needed package. Hrhr, ok that hit me back as usual when I don't check the facts. ;) Ok just looked on a mirror and it seems to be splitted now. So it is indeed reasonable to review the new situation and see what's left in the -extra package and what is usefull of the new splittouts. Maybe you can add it to the todo list on the Wiki so we don't forget it (or do it now, I'm back around 10-08).
