Bug#505281:

2009-03-11 Thread Tomasz Ka%u017Amierczak
For quite some time now, I haven't encountered this problem any more.
Moreover, the bug report in VirtualBox BT system claims that this is
already resolved somewhere around 2.x, which is already in Debian.

If nobody has this problem after upgrading to the 2.1.4, then, as for
me, the bug can be closed.

Bug#505281: virtualbox-ose: VirtualBox errors and fills up /var/log

2009-01-08 Thread Adam John Trickett
Package: virtualbox-ose
Version: 1.6.6-dfsg-3
Followup-For: Bug #505281

VirtualBox use to fail now and then with the assert error, now it's happening
very frequently and it dumps out messages to the /var/log/messages /var/log/kern
and /var/log/syslog log files until /var fills up and the machine locks up.

Bug#505281: Flood of VBox errors (assertion failure reports) in system log files

2008-11-11 Thread Tomasz Ka%u017Amierczak
Package: virtualbox-ose
Version: 1.6.6-dfsg-2
Severity: serious

There is some assertion failure in VirtualBox that is being outputed
(thousand times a second? something like that) to /var/log/kern.log,
/var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog.
This causes these files to grow very quickly untill the / filesystem is
full. After five days of extensive usage of VirtualBox all the files
have 1.5 GB of size each (4.5 GB altogether) and my root partition is
full. Then I have to manually remove these files in order to be able to
use my system again.

It seems that this is this, and only this, message:

Nov 10 20:32:34 localhost kernel: [ 5655.155124]
Nov 10 20:32:34 localhost kernel: [ 5655.155125] !!R0-Assertion Failed!!
Nov 10 20:32:34 localhost kernel: [ 5655.155126] Expression: NULL
Nov 10 20:32:34 localhost kernel: [ 5655.155127] Location :
/build/buildd/virtualbox-ose-1.6.6-dfsg/src/VBox/VMM/VMMAll/PGM
AllPool.cpp(2738) void pgmPoolTracDerefGCPhys(PGMPOOL*, PGMPOOLPAGE*,
RTHCPHYS, RTGCPHYS)

repeated many, many times (there is so much of these asserts that it's
impossible to check whether there are some other VBox outputs).

System: Debian testing AMD64.
The VBox kernel module is compiled from source (virtualbox-ose-source,
1.6.6-dfsg-2).

severity 505281 important

thanks

There is some assertion failure in VirtualBox that is being outputed
(thousand times a second? something like that) to /var/log/kern.log,
 /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog.

This doesn't hit every system not even every VM on a system, therefore I think
the bug should be important but not serious.

Upstream is aware of this. However, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to
reproduce.
