Hi Uwe,

2009-02-06 14:28 Uwe Storbeck:

Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.11-1~lenny1
Severity: normal

Hi

On an upgrade from etch to lenny aptitude always forces me to remove
cacti (also see bug #514342). While trying to resolve this problem
manually I got to the following aptitude misbehaviour:

 # aptitude -v purge php4-cli
 Reading package lists... Done
 Building dependency tree
 Reading state information... Done
 Reading extended state information
 Initializing package states... Done
 The following packages are BROKEN:
   cacti
The following packages will be REMOVED:
   php4-cli{p} [6:4.4.4-8+etch6] <-3105kB>
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 27 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 3105kB will be freed.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
cacti: Depends: php4-cli but it is not installable or
php5-cli but it is not installable
   ^^
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

 Remove the following packages:
 cacti

 Score is 121

 Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?] ^C

 # aptitude -v install php5-cli
 Reading package lists... Done
 Building dependency tree

 Reading extended state information
 Initializing package states... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
   php5-cli [5.2.6.dfsg.1-1+lenny2] <+5419kB>
The following packages are SUGGESTED but will NOT be installed:
   php-pear
0 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 27 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/2475kB of archives. After unpacking 5419kB will be used.

Did you continue to see this issue after that occasion?

The resolver was heavily changed in the versions after the one that you
are using. I am not sure if we can do much about this bug report now if
it's only this old case.

Cheers.
