Bug#515728: shared-mime-info: lost file association in gnome/nautilus
Hi Jesse, I'm wondering that if adding the Breaks would introduce new problems to users who don't have this problem? Yes, they won't be able to upgrade to the new shared-mime-info package until they upgrade the packages for which we are adding a Breaks field. It's pretty much like with Conflicts... in fact we are likely going to use Conflicts as some buildds are still using Etch's dpkg and thus can't build packages with Breaks in their control file. But of the 3 breaks, tracker has been uploaded today to unstable so it's ok, and we want to upload nautilus and libgnomevfs to unstable soon, but for that to happen we will need to upload GTK+ 2.14 first. Anyway it won't hurt anybody as you can still use shared-mime-info from testing, but we will try to make the transition as fast as possible. Hi, I'd prefer not to install pkgs coming from experimental 2.24 'cause I would mess up sid as you stated. I've no problem to wait for gnome 2.24 in unstable, hoping to see it soon. Bug#515728: shared-mime-info: lost file association in gnome/nautilus
Daniel J. Calandria Hernández wrote: Hi! It works with nautilus 2.24 from experimental Thank you for checking. In the end the problem was that shared-mime-info changed the mime.cache file structure in an incompatible manner, but some packages (nautilus, tracker, libgnomevfs) have their own copy of xdgmime in their source trees, which are old and don't support the new format. The solution to this is to add Breaks to those packages. Fortunately nautilus and tracker no longer use their own copy of xdgmime in the packages in experimental, and libgnomevfs has been updated, so with those packages we should be all good. The attached patch adds the conflicts. Hi Emilio, I have two X86_64 machines with Debian unstable installed. Both of them are using 0.51-3 without any problem. ii shared-mime-info 0.51-3 ii nautilus 2.20.0-7 ii libgnomevfs2-0 1:2.22.0-5 0.51-2 also works fine since it is where I upgrade this package from. Bug#515728: shared-mime-info: lost file association in gnome/nautilus
After I upgraded from 0.30 to 0.50 I also had problem with missing icons etc. on some of my computers running Debian unstable. Today I discovered a folder called .local in my home folder that, among other things, had some mime-related data in it. After I deleted the .local folder I got the correct icons back in nautilus again. I'm now using 0.51-3 (i386) and everything seems to be back to normal. Maybe this is a solution that will help others that are having the same problem. /Mikael (This is a repost from an other mail account - I think that my first email disappeared into cyber space) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi again :) Sebastian Dröge has pointed out to me that nautilus 2.20 ships it's own copy of xdgmime, which might be too old for the shared-mime-info changes. Could any of you try nautilus 2.24 from experimental? Beware that it's experimental, so may not be a good idea to install it (and all the dependencies) in a production system.
