Dear Michael,
down here in the Debian bug tracking system we got a bug report
regarding your package covington.sty.
The submitter complains that the package redefines \textfloatsep . He
asks why the package does that. I have to say I don't understand it
either: a package written to define some new accent macros is not
expected to change this parameter. Further: the \raggedbottom command
should be removed too (IMHO).
Thanks for considering,

Package: texlive-humanities
Version: 2007.dfsg.17-1
Severity: minor
When using covington.sty, it is not possible to change \textfloatsep afterwards.
The following document results in an error message:
\documentclass{scrartcl}
\usepackage{covington}
\showthe\textfloatsep
\begin{document}
\end{document}
The offending line in covington.sty is:
\renewcommand{\textfloatsep}{0.7in}
If that line is commented out, all is well.
Actually; I don't see why it's the business of this package to readjust this
value
at all, and 0.7in is quite a large distance - the default is 20pt.
best,
Torsten
