It looks like this issue was brought to the NetworkManager mailing list

Some breakage with 0.7.1-1 has already been reported to the Debian BTS,
but 525638 [2] seems to be something different.

Hi Paul,

with network-manager 0.8.x from squeeze and sid, hal was replaced by udev and
modems are controlled by modem-manager. Your bug therefore is not directly
applicable anymore to the current version so I'd like to know if you can still
reproduce the issue on a up-to-date squeeze or sid system

Thanks,
Michael

Bug#527892: network-manager: WARN new_modem_device(): couldn't find HSO modem network device.

2009-08-12 Thread Julien Valroff
hi,

To be precise, creating /etc/hal/fdi/information/dep.fdi with the
following contents, followed by restarting hal, made my HSO modem
 appear:

 deviceinfo version=0.2
 device
   match key=info.subsystem contains=usb
   merge key=info.bus
 type=copy_propertyinfo.subsystem/merge
   /match
 /device
 /deviceinfo

I confirm this also works for me.
Thanks Sam for the workaround.

Cheers,
Julien

Ok, Dan Williams posted a workaround in the mentioned thread [1], but
some messages are missing especially with the fdi file. I found that
sane seems to have the same problem [4] and Martin Pitt posted a fdi
file there which worked for me.

Thanks,

Paul
