I just wanted to confirm that I can no longer reproduce the problem with 6b18~pre2-1 and a java applet works fine. I'm sure that I had the g_io_channel_write_chars message in the past, but maybe when reporting a problem with 6b17~pre3-1 I was hit by a different bug, e.g. by running in a non-reparenting window manager.
