I am glad you caught the humour. I enjoy waxing lyrical at times, and
placing a smiley has the sense of cheapening the prose... :)

(nevertheless please do downgrade totem-plugin to Recommends:)

Bug#544824: gnome: downgrade totem-plugin from Depends: to Recommends:

2009-09-03 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: gnome
Version: 1:2.26+0
Severity: normal

The gnome package is useful for installing a generally full and
complete desktop environment.

It goes too far, however, by Depends: totem-mozilla. gnome should be
enabling useful programs to be installed, it should not be interfering
with the way I want to use my browser.

With totem-mozilla coerced in, videos on the web are forced to be
displayed inside the web browser. This is dreadful! I have a
perfectly good movie viewer for watching videos (several in fact, with
vlc as well as totem), I don't need my web browser to pretend it knows
best how I want to handle videos. Yes, totem-mozilla has a
right-click option to open the movie viewer (it's miles ahead of
mozilla-plugin-vlc in this regard), but that's not really the
point is it?

I don't want these stupid web browser video plugins, but I do
otherwise want the other programs that gnome offers.

This grave infringement of web-using freedom would be smartly
alleviated by simply changing gnome Depends: totem-plugin to
gnome Recommends: totem-plugin.

Thank you,
Drew
