Bug#562699: fixed in gkrellm-x86info 0.0.2-8 - fix confirmed
Hi Martin, sorry I haven't checked the other bug reports before writting this one - looking at bugs #501280 and #253524, it seems like the frequency monitor may not work on some processors. As written in my previous report, I did not have a chance to compare the monitor on two identical processors, so it may be that the problem of main is related just to the Intel Core2 Duo processor and is not a consequence of the used architecture. Hi Pavel! * Pavel Reznicek rezni...@ipnp.troja.mff.cuni.cz [2010-01-05 11:00]: sorry I haven't checked the other bug reports before writting this one - looking at bugs #501280 and #253524, it seems like the frequency monitor may not work on some processors. Can you try if x86info produces proper results? If yes a sync with the code there (acutally gkrellm-x86info is just a gkrellm plugin that borrows code from x86info) should fix the problem. Bug#562699: fixed in gkrellm-x86info 0.0.2-8 - fix confirmed
Hi Martin, no, x86info is also reporting wrong estimate. However, examining more the output of cpufreq-info, it may be that the estimate by x86info is actually right: I have 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. When I set the frequency to 800 MHz by cpufreq-set -f 80, then the cpufreq-info reports following information: current CPU frequency is 800 MHz. cpufreq stats: 2.40 GHz:88.56%, 2.00 GHz:0.00%, ... , 800 MHz:11.44% See the strange fractions of 2.4GHz and 800MHz. It looks like the CPU frequency scalling on some processors (here the Core 2 Duo) is not as simple as just having a lower/higher constant frequency. Since (gkrellm-)x86info is estimating the real frequency, I would say that the behaviour is a feature of the package and not a bug (and most probably the same applies to the bugs #501280 and #253524). And obviously it has nothing to do with the architecture. Best regards, Pavel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#562699: fixed in gkrellm-x86info 0.0.2-8 - fix confirmed
Hello, are you really sure the package works fine on amd64 ? When enabling it in gkrellm, I can see a fluctuating frequency, but when I switch my Intel Core2 Duo to 800 MHz (using cpufreq-set), there is no change in the frequency monitoriged by gkrellm, although cpufreq-get command returns 800MHz. While on a desktop with AMD QuadCore and a laptop with PentiumM - but both with i386 architecture, the gkrellm monitor scales correctly when changing the frequency via cpufreq-set. Hmm it looks correct on my Notebook. Since upstream appears no longer interested in the package I assume I need to track the delta to current x86info myself. This will take some time so please be patient. Yours Martin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
