Bug#567620: [Pkg-fglrx-devel] Bug#567620: fglrx-driver: Black screen after X startup
it sounds like you may have an invalid screen resolution or display depth. try manually setting only 640x480 in xorg.conf, and see if that works. mike Heureka, the new upgrade helped and it is now working. Before that I tried to switch to 640x480 -- still the same. Back light was on (I think it was off last time), but still black screen. The new upgrade doesn't require DKMS, so it was automatically unistalled. Maybe this was the reason. I'm not familiar with it. I played with it (although the configuration is different from Debian) and ended in manual start -- no automatic X. I normally boot (e.g. including acpi, acpid is running), then manually modprobe fglrx, then startx. Interestingly, it starts, but without back light -- I can see processes in ps aux, but the terminal 7 is black. Text terminals (1-6) are working normally. I tried also the normal boot -- flgrx in /etc/modules and gdm started from /etc/init.d/S99gdm. It works well -- blindly. If I enter my credentials, it starts my session, but the screen remains black. It seems, that the main problem is the back light. it sounds like you may have an invalid screen resolution or display depth. try manually setting only 640x480 in xorg.conf, and see if that works. mike -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
