  Mike

Yes, this does seem to help. No crashes in spite of extensive opening
and closing tabs; and even in Iceape, there have not been any crashes
so far.

I can confirm that about 5 hours of browsing later, there are no
crashes so far.

Bug#571138: Info received (Bug#571138: iceweasel: random crashes at page/tab close of Iceweasel and iceape)

2010-02-24 Thread Mahesh T. Pai
COuple of things I forgot to mention earlier.

1. the crash occurs only while closing tabs. Holding the mouse with
button pressed, over the tab close button seems to reduce chances
of a crash. But the crash is random.

2. When I ran iceweasel under gdb, the app crashed, but the window did
not close. The tab was closed, but contents of closed tab did not
go away, and instead continued to be displayed in the open
tab. Actual contents of the open tab were not displayed.

3. Even seemingly simple sites seem to cause crash.
   eg:- http://causelists.nic.in/kerala/index1.html (and sub-pages).
and http://sbt.co.in/~pad/INDEX.html (use the URL in full).

4. This did not exist in 2.* version of Iceweasel.

Iceape, however crashed at random, not just while closing windows /
tabs. It almost always crashes when clearing browser history.

Thanks.

Please file a new bug for the iceape issue, with a backtrace.

Bug#571138: iceweasel: random crashes at page/tab close of Iceweasel and iceape

2010-02-24 Thread Matthias Heinz
Hi,

I have the same issue and I think its related to the new xulrunner-1.9.1
package or libmozjs2d (both version 1.9.1.8-3) from the weekend. Because
before the upgrade I had no problems with iceweasel.

Best regards,
Matthias

PS: I had no time yet to downgrade the packages and find out which one
is related. But I hope this hint helps.

It looks like this is the problem. I did some heavy tab using and
testing after the downgrade and had no segfault anymore.

Matthias

Did that and have not yet been able to crash the browser; will advise

Bug#571138: iceweasel: random crashes at page/tab close of Iceweasel and iceape

2010-02-23 Thread Mahesh T. Pai
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.5.8-1
Severity: normal

(I have tried following the instructions in the page
appearing before reportbus reports bugs. But, first, the
background)

Iceape and Iceweasel crashes randomly. I have tried various
flash plugins, but it appears that flash player is not the
problem. Neither would crash when run under stracce).

Output of running iceweasel -sync.

Both iceweasel and iceape crash while closing tabs.

The below crash occured while clearing browsing history. As soon as
browsing history is cleared, it crashes.

Output of iceape -safe-mode

Iceape always crashes while clearing browser history.

Will try with other options later on.

Please run through the instructions in /usr/share/bug/iceweasel/presubj,
