The situation is that basically Grilo doesn't have a stable API/ABI
yet, so instead of waiting for that to happen I think it makes sense
to package it for experimental in the meantime as Andreas suggested.

However I've been talking to upstream about this and they said they're
not going to break anything anymore in the 0.1.x series, so we can
create stable packages for that one right now.

All major changes will happen in the 0.2.x series, which is due to
start soon, with 0.1.x in maintenance mode happening in parallel.

I'm planning to start working on this in the next days/weeks.

Berto

What a good news!
Once it is uploaded, I'll start to work on the grilo-plugins package
in order to push it into unstable soon.

Hey, I hadn't noticed that there was an ITP bug for grilo-plugins as
well :)

I was actually planning to package both grilo and its plugins. The
thing is that all the lead developers work with me (Igalia started the
project) and I have direct contact with them, so I think it will be
easier if I maintain (or at least co-maintain) both packages.

What do you think?

No problem in reassigning grilo-plugins to you, I'm happy to see all
this interest in grilo so feel free to take it.
If you need help or just a sponsor, please don't hesitate to ping me.

Thanks!

Good, I'll start preparing the package in the next weeks and contact
you as soon as they're ready.

A quick update on this:

I've been talking to upstream and the problem now is that basically
Grilo doesn't have a stable API/ABI yet, so I'm not sure if it makes
sense to start packaging it so early.

Is there a policy for libraries with no stable API in Debian?

Normally you need a stable ABI, so if library versioning is not
handled by upstream then you handle the so versioning.
Debian-specific so versioning is best avoided though...

I suggest putting it in experimental for now No guarantees there,
and people who want to test it can easily install it. :)

Hi, this ITP is almost a year old so I'm not sure if you're still
interested in working on this, but anyway:

I work with the upstream Grilo team and I'm willing to create official
Debian packages. I think I have the technical background to do it on
my own but I'm not a DD, so I'd need sponsorship anyway.
