I guess this happens when using the version from testing directly on your computer without recompiling ? I tested dvtm 0.4.1 in a stable chroot and could indeed reproduced the problem. However after rebuilding the package, everything runs fine. Could you please try to rebuild it on your machine and confirm that it fixes the issue ? If so, I'll ask for a binNMU.
