Printing from the GIMP using the gimp-gutenprint plugin still does not
work, but that is probably not related though. With that plugin, the
printer prints gibberish and a heap of formfeeds in stead of the
picture.

This is indeed an interesting discovery!

Looking at the cups changelog, this might be the bump to use a newer
libpopple. Just a wild guess.

I'll reassing and see what the CUPS maintainers say about it.

Thanks a lot for your valuable info,

Bug#583738: ghostscripts pdftoraster fails printing from gtk apps

2010-12-25 Thread tony van lingen

G'day.

Forgive me if it is not, but I feel this may be important to this bug.

Today I upgraded the cups libcups packages on my system from 1.4.4-3
to 1.4.4-7 and found to my amazement that the above symptoms have
disappeared! Previously I too could not print from any gnome-based app
or from the GIMP. After today's update I can print from gedit, etc. and
from the GIMP as well. Perhaps the problem was not with ghostscript
after all.

Printing from the GIMP using the gimp-gutenprint plugin still does not
work, but that is probably not related though. With that plugin, the
printer prints gibberish and a heap of formfeeds in stead of the picture.

Bug#583738: ghostscripts pdftoraster fails printing from gtk apps

2010-05-30 Thread Thomas Neugebauer
Package: ghostscript
Version: 8.71~dfsg2-3
Severity: important

Hi folks,

I filed bug #575798 some time ago, but I am pretty sure, it is
obsolete by filing this one. Since two weeks I got the following error
message from the cups interface

/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftoraster failed

The error.log contains an enormous amount of lines complaining about
formating issues.
Similar bugs have been found in Fedora and Ubuntu.
The error occurs by printing from Gnome Applications, for example gedit
or evince. OpenOffice.org or Icedove print well.
