When updating bind9 ('sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' in my case) the named binary 
is left with 000-permissions:
mdresc...@host:~$ ls -la /usr/sbin/named 
---------- 1 root root 501320 10. Jun 21:32 /usr/sbin/named

This causes a

Starting domain name service...: bind9named binary missing - not starting.      
                                          
 failed!
---
