Bug#586209: O: cedet -- Collection of Emacs Development Environment Tools

2010-06-17 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The current maintainer of cedet, Michael W. Olson (GNU address)
mwol...@gnu.org lacks the time to maintain it and suggested[1] to
orphan the package -- which I herewith do.

  [1] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=540321#27

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you will have enough time and attention to work on it.

One of the things to do when adopting this package is to package the new
upstream version 1.0pre7[2] which is currently blocking rudel[3] from
entering Debian.

  [2] http://bugs.debian.org/540321
  [3] http://bugs.debian.org/551187

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Hi Risko,

Thanks for posting that information.

I do not use rudel anymore actively as part of my day job, this is why I
 lost interest in this.

So maybe you should change the ITP at http://bugs.debian.org/551187 to
an RFP or even close it. Or do you still intend to maintain rudel in
Debian?

I think it also should be noted, that from GNU Emacs 23.2, CEDET is
a builtin, so this need for work will go away if we just wait. :-)

Ok, so the main work is to prepare a smooth transition to Emacs 23.2?

Apropos, does in that case http://bugs.debian.org/540321 still block
http://bugs.debian.org/551187 or does the cedet version from Emacs
23.2 suffice for rudel?

Regards, Axel

2010-06-17 Thread RISKO Gergely
Just to add information to this, I would like to note that I can not
keep my offer for maintainership I gave in 540321.

On the other hand this info is still correct:
-=-
I've based my debian packaging on Michael's git repo
(git://git.hcoop.net/git/mwolson/debian/cedet.git). My repository is
here: http://gitorious.org/errge-debian-cedet,
git://gitorious.org/errge-debian-cedet/errge-debian-cedet.git.

Packages built from the repo (on Ubuntu, sorry about this):
deb http://www.gergely.risko.hu/cedet ./
deb-src http://www.gergely.risko.hu/cedet ./
-=-

So if anyone wants to continue the work from there, feel free to steal
and if you happen to have any questions about this work, I am happy to
answer!

I do not use rudel anymore actively as part of my day job, this is why I
lost interest in this. I think it also should be noted, that from GNU
Emacs 23.2, CEDET is a builtin, so this need for work will go away if we
just wait. :-)

Yes, maybe I should, I will do it now. Probably just closing is enough,
since RFP is misleading right now, as the packaging currently can not be
done, so CC-ing 551187-d...@bugs.debian.org now.

Ok, so the main work is to prepare a smooth transition to Emacs 23.2?

Yes, but I hope our cool emacs maintainers will (or probably already) be
doing that. :)

According to http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/Rudel, 23.2 is enough.

So the blocking is no more.

Thanks,
Gergely
