I have quickly checked the package available on mentors.d.n and while it is mostly ok, there are still a few things to improve: * You have made direct changes to the upstream source code, leading to the creation of a debian-changes-0.3.0-2 patch * You don't need to depend on libgtk2.0-0 (the dependency is automatically added by dpkg-shlibdeps) * For a first upload to Debian, please keep the changelog clean and make sure the ITP gets closed * dpkg-shlideps warns about the binary to be linked against several unused libraries - you might want to build the package using -Wl,--as-needed * You should specify the GPL-3 license text in a standalone license paragraph as recommended in DEP-5 * You miss several copyright information (mostly for autotools files etc.) * You ship an empty NEWS file in the package, as well as a useless README (which only contains information on how to build volumeicon) - AUTHORS is imho also useless as the information is also in the copyright file * Have you forwarded your manpage to the upstream developer? I'd be happy to upload this package for you if you fix these points (or argue why you won't fix some of them). You can contact me directly, either by mail or on IRC (as jvalroff on freenode and oftc). Cheers, Julien -- .''`. Hi, I dunno if you saw, or if it's frech (well deb is of 27-03-2010)[1]), but you can download a deb for the i386 and amd64 arch. That's already somethings and the amd64 version is working nicely here on Squeeze. Didn't check the internals of the deb yet, but that's for the specialists. I'm so happy to have it now :) [1] http://www.softwarebakery.com/maato/fl.html#/volumeicon/ Kind regards, David Van Mosselbeen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Hi Maato, I'm trying my best to get your volumeicon as the official Debian package (please check this for details, http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=586522). I'm wondering if you - could provide its Debian source package - willing to maintain the package in Debian Thanks! tong On Mon, Oct 4, 2010 at 2:40 PM, David Bremner wrote: > On Mon, 4 Oct 2010 10:37:06 -0400, Tong Sun wrote: > > > So, Please upload the volumeicon package, as the Debian packages are > > already there at the web site, > > http://www.softwarebakery.com/maato/volumeicon.html > > > > I would assume only cosmetic changes are necessary for the packages > > to be uploaded. Please go ahead. Usually there is more to it than that, since upstream authors are not usually too worried about conforming to Debian policy, but rather working on fixing bugs and getting new versions of their software released. You could start by asking upstream to provide Debian source packages, and perhaps ask them if they are willing to maintain the package in Debian, or consider maintaining it yourself if they are not interested. Bug#586522: Please upload the volumeicon package
Hi, There was an "overwhelmed" responds to my "desperate" question, A simple GUI volume control tool for fluxbox http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.user/391374 If you go through every and each one of them, you will know that volumeicon is the only one that suits my OP: ,- | I do almost everything on command line. Maybe the only GUI tool I need is | the sound volume control tool, but I don't have it any more -- I used to | use tkmixer. Now that it's obsoleted, I'm yet to find a GUI sound mixer | plain and simple enough for me. | | Just like Gnome/Windows volume control tool -- nothing fancy and eye | catching, just out of the way most of the time, but when I need it, it's | a click away and offer nothing complicated than the main (and PCM) volume | control. `- So, Please upload the volumeicon package, as the Debian packages are already there at the web site, http://www.softwarebakery.com/maato/volumeicon.html I would assume only cosmetic changes are necessary for the packages to be uploaded. Please go ahead. Thanks a lot! -- SUN, Tong -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
