Package: geomview Version: 1.9.4-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hello, this bug report could be the last thing I do about geomview (but who knows?).
During last August, I wrote a geomview module that reads a (two-dimensional, Fortran-unformatted, multi-block) PLOT3D grid file and visualizes it. Please note that the PLOT3D data formats are used in CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics): they were born as native data formats for an old NASA visualization tool (named PLOT3D). For further information: http://www.efluid.com.cn/images/up/DownloadFile/Sajben%20Transonic%20Diffuser/Plot3d%20format.txt and chapter 8 of the original PLOT3D user's manual, downloadable from: http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/4177251 My original goal was to write modules that enable geomview to read PLOT3D data formats and visualize them: I wanted to send my modules to geomview upstream developers, so that they could include them in the official geomview distribution. However, while writing and debugging the first module, I began to get confirmation that geomview upstream maintainers have virtually disappeared. As explained in more detail in http://bugs.debian.org/547500#22 it seems that I am the only subscriber of the geomview-devel mailing list, which is really awkward, since I am *not* a geomview developer! That list has seen no messages in 2008, one message (from me!) in 2009, and no messages in 2010 (so far). My message (about bug #357445) was left without replies: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=20090819164323.e62890f4.frx%40firenze.linux.it&forum_name=geomview-devel Consequently, I stopped writing geomview modules. Now, it seems to me that what I wrote should not be wasted, as it could still be useful someone else. Hence, I thought I could send my module to Debian geomview maintainers: feel free to include it in the Debian package. You should find it attached to the present message. Bye.
