As a quick fix you can specify the absolute mail program path in your
slurm.conf by adding:

MailProg=/usr/bin/mail

 Perhaps the debian packaging can fix this?

I will change the default value to /usr/bin/mail in the next package
release. Thanks for pointing this out.
