Bug has been identified to be an issue with the nvidia binary driver, see

Please try the latest versions of the NVIDIA driver, eventually the problem
was fixed by upstream already. The following Debian packages are available:

195.36.31-3 (unstable)
256.53-1 (experimental)

Transparency is OK with nvidia driver (256.53-1) but does not seems to
work well with nouveau driver (windows don't stay black like they used
to be with nvidia, but the display is not ok though, there is sometimes
a latency and windows get black). More precisely:

vesa, nv: no transparency at all. No black windows though.
Afaik, transparency should not depend on glx extension... nad then
should wok with nv driver.
nv specific issue: menus appear with a sensible latency and look
inoperant (i could not close kde session)
nouveau: temporary black windows when resizing or
moving. Transparency looks almost ok, despite of this little latency but
for some reason i cannot check more right now any further (trouble
with direct rending manager).
nvidia: transparency is ok. Windows get translicid when moved or
resized and are correctly displayed and decored - no latency, no black
window.

Bug#589699: Display issues: windows are darken when resized

2010-07-19 Thread Yves Lambert
Package: kde
Severity: important

This bugreport looks like incomplete and maybe a duplicate (I am using
reportbug GUI for the first time. I am used to use CLI instead). If necessary
please forward it to Debian Qt/KDE Maintainers debian-qt-...@lists.debian.org

When resizing windows the client part of it gets all black. This can occur to
any window, but it seems that it does only occure when k windows manager is
running.

A way to reproduce it is to maximize a window: this way, it looks like any
window gets black. When resizing a window, this sometimes get back, sometimes
stays normal. To get window's normal display, un-maximize it helps in most
case. A darken window's nomal display can be got back by maximizing it then un-
maximize it, but this does not work every time.
