This seems to be a very crazy idea. But if you provide a patch, I will
include it.

Maybe add an option -C (crazy) :-)
No, use another letter (r for reuse?)

Bug#600195: fai-server: support execution of fai-setup without recreating nfsroot

2010-10-14 Thread Michael Prokop
Package: fai-server
Version: 3.4.2
Severity: wishlist

For a fully-automated deployment of a FAI server¹ I'd like to be able
to re-use an existing nfsroot. All I'd need is the relevant setup
instructions of fai-setup without invoking the line containing:

  make-fai-nfsroot $options

so my nfsroot doesn't get lost. I'm aware that you shouldn't re-use
an existing nfsroot if you make any changes in the normal deployment
cycle. But I'm booting virtual machines for setting up the FAI
server and the machine *optionally* re-uses an existing nfsroot to
speed up the deployment process if testing FAI releases.

So an option to just skip the make-fai-nfsroot part but build
/etc/exports etc. anyway would be nice.

If there aren't any objections/alternative suggestions I'd come up
with a patch.

¹ Yes, I'm really talking about the server part. :) I'm
automatically setting up FAI servers to install Debian for
  testing FAI releases.

regards,
-mika-
