Do you also see the oops if you just stop acpi_fakekeyd by calling
/etc/init.d/acpi-fakekey stop? What happens if you manually remove the
 uinput
 module after killing acpi_fakekeyd?

Do you see the same problem when using a non-tainted kernel?

Did a new install of Sid, avoiding acpi_fakekeyd: the error necessitated
running a live-cd before every boot to grub-install the mbr.
AFAIK the kernel is tainted because I use NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.21.run to
be able to run a two-seater. It's the choice between that or not having one:
so tainted it stays.

Bug#601368: acpi-fakekey: kernel oops on halt or reboot

2010-10-25 Thread hugo vanwoerkom
Package: acpi-fakekey
Version: 0.137-5
Severity: normal

Upon system halt or reboot I get a kernel oops that points to acpi_fakekeyd.
This is with the latest Sid kernel 2.6.32-5-686.
The system hangs afterwards and it messes up grub so I have to grub-install
from a live CD.
This is what syslog shows:
