Bug#605353: Bug#605111: gnome-session does not allow to use gnome splash screen but package gnome-splashscreen-manager does

2010-12-06 Thread Alexander Reichle-Schmehl
Hi!

* Mohammed Adnène Trojette adn+...@diwi.org [101205 01:35]:

To be honest, I can't tell because I haven't used it myself for a while
and I won't have a Debian box available before February :-(

gnome-art used to be a very appreciated package. I think popcon
illustrates it correctly. So if there is no real technical problem with
gnome-art, I'd rather have it remain in Debian for now.

I just played a bit with gnome-art. And why I can see some use cases, I
actually fear that it won't be much use, it's quite slow (even on quite
modern hardware!)... acutally it's so slow, that I thought it crashed,
while throwing quite a lot of different error/warning messages to the
console.

Sorry, but I'm going to remove the package for now, but feel free to
re-upload it to experimental until it's better working again.

Best Regards,
  Alexander

gnome-splashscreen-manager is a binary package build from source package
gnome-art, which also builds the binary package gnome-art.

 Oh indeed, I didn’t notice.

Would you like to get the source package and all binaries removed, or is
this bug about removing the gnome-splashscreen-manager binary package?

I don’t know whether the gnome-art package still works. I doubt of its
usefulness now the control center accepts new themes through
drag’n’drop, but the maintainer should confirm whether or not it should
 stay.

Of course, as I am a bit busy right now, people doing the work have the
final word on this matter.
