In section 2.4.1 table 2.13 refers to:

dpkg --get-selection '*' >selection.txt         save dpkg level package 
selection state information
dpkg --set-selection <selection.txt     set dpkg level package selection state 
information 

The dpkg options referred to should be in the plural form:

dpkg --get-selections '*' >selecion.txt
dpkg --set-selections <selection.txt

As per "man dpkg" or "dpkg --help"

The options as given just give an error "unknown option"
