I agree with Christian: if GPX isn't specific to Garmin devices, then we
shouldn't mention Garmin Forerunner at all. It would just be an incomplete
list.

As usual, I end up agreeing with Justin.

I finally just wonder if we should specific about Garmin
devices. After all, pytrainer can be used for about any kind of
logging as long as you have GPX files...which is easy with software
like gpsbabel.

Of course, current Debian maintainers all use Garmin
watches..:-)...but still...I think that one can do something with
other stuff like Polar (dunno if they have GPS-enabled devices) or an
Android phone or even (erk) an iPhone.

All package synopses are about "software", so "tool" is better; and
you don't need to swerve so hard to avoid second person:

Description: tool for logging sport activities

> This package provides a tool to log sport activities (such as
> running, biking, etc.) with data originating from GPS
> devices, including:

> * other devices that generate GPX files.

 * Saying that you log the activities "with" data gets a bit unclear.
 * The general term "sports activities" has already been used in the
synopsis, so here you can go straight to the specific cases.
 * Two bulletpoints isn't enough to justify making it a list.
 * Surprisingly the Forerunner isn't in camelcase.
So:

Description: tool for logging sport activities
This package provides a logging tool for runners, cyclists, etc. It
uses data from GPS-enabled devices that generate GPX files, such as
 the Garmin Forerunnner 205/305/405.

Bubulle mantra: thou shalt avoid "you" and "your" in thy package
descriptions..:-)

Let's start a formal review by debian-l10n-english for this package
which I intend to get more involved into.

here's the current package description:

Description: The Free Sport Training Center
Pytrainer is a tool to log your sport activities. This software was
originally thought for cyclists, but it can also be used for other
resistance sports like running, swimming, skiing, and so on. Pytrainer
is also able to generate detailed graphs and statistics with data
 retrieved from GPS-provided fitness devices.

Erik's proposal:

Description: Tool to log your sport activities
Pytrainer is a tool to log all your sport excursion coming from GPS
 devices, including:
  * Garmin ForeRunnner 205, 305 and 405.
  * other devices that generate GPX files.

My proposal:

Description: sport activities logging software
This package provides a tool to log sport activities (such as
running, biking, etc.) with data originating from GPS
 devices, including:
  * Garmin ForeRunnner 205, 305 and 405;
  * other devices that generate GPX files.

Package: pytrainer
Version: 1.8.0-1
Severity: minor

Hello,

the package description has the term "resistance sports" while refering to
"endurance
sports", proabably a wrong translation from Spanish or Portuguese. The short
description "The Free Sport Training Center" is not really helping either. I
suggest
to use a slightly description from the upstream website[1]:

"Pytrainer is a tool to log all your sport excursion coming from GPS devices,
including:

 * Garmin ForeRunnner 205, 305 and 405.
 * other devices that generate GPX files.

Pytrainer supports GPS track files and displays it in graphs, maps."

and "Tool to log your sport activities" as short description.

Regards Erik
