Bug#642906: RFH: balsa -- An e-mail client for GNOME
Daniel, Do you still use balsa? If so, do you think we can close this RFH bug? The biggest thing we were missing was someone who uses the app to confirm it's still working and able to make occasional fixes (which you can since you're a team maintainer for it). Thank you, Jeremy Bicha
Bug#642906: RFH: balsa -- An e-mail client for GNOME
Hi. I noticed the following in the "Work-needing packages report for Sep 30, 2022" e-mail sent from w...@debian.org to debian-de...@lists.debian.org on Sep 30... > For the following packages help is requested: >balsa (#642906), requested 4022 days ago > Description: An e-mail client for GNOME > Reverse Depends: balsa > Installations reported by Popcon: 604 > Bug Report URL: https://bugs.debian.org/642906 I might be able to help out here. But can you tell me exactly what help is needed? I may need to do a little preparation work before hand though. Thanks, Gervase. PS. I noticed that the request for help is also in https://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/help_requested, but there are no details there about how to reach out to offer help.

I haven't seen much activity on this RFH about balsa, and it looks like it's been over a year since any version of balsa has been uploaded to debian. I've just NMUed balsa 2.5.9-0.1 to debian experimental, which fixes a pretty severe bug (#911558). I've also pushed a MR for these changes here: https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/balsa/merge_requests/1, asking if i can help out more directly (i don't have push access to the balsa repo on salsa). If you're ok with me helping out, it'd be most useful if i could have access to push to the basla repo on salsa. Also, if you want me to add myself to uploaders on the package, i'm willing to do that. A few notes about remaining packaging work i see ahead for balsa: - Change debian/changelog to DEP-5. - Split out the arch-independent stuff in /usr/share to a balsa-data package, to reduce the size of the archive (this requires a trip through NEW, sigh). - Add some sort of autopkgtest (maybe we need something like https://salsa.debian.org/debian/test-daemons to make a plausible test suite?) - Consider enabling newer upstream features like Autocrypt. - If we land 2.5.9 in unstable, consider importing upstream's gmime 3.0 conversion work into debian/patches for unstable Regards, --dkg signature.asc Description: PGP signature
