Bug#649014: gnome-core: gnome-packagekit is not ready to be in the default install
Hi! As PackageKit maintainer and upstream developer, I want to inform you that the PackageKit Aptcc backend has all the necessary features implemented and working. Right now, the last version (which contains a nearly-rewritten aptcc backend by Daniel and me) is in unstable and blocked by apt. It will be in Testing in 8 days, probably. GNOME-PackageKit will support all features required to use it in Debian then. (including Debconf and Conffile support) With future PK releases planned, accessing the package database will become even faster, removing the last disadvantages of PackageKit. (but that's not relevant for Wheezy, it will never be ready in time and be tested well enough) It would be great if you could give PackageKit and GNOME-PackageKit some intensive testing, especially since the aptcc backend is completely reworked. Also, patches for GPK and the GPK UI are very welcome, if you want to have something changed. (I can discuss any changes with upstream then) If you don't think GPK is ready as default component, please tell me why, so I can take a look at the issues! :) Kind regards, Matthias Klumpp P.S: I'm subscribed to this bug report now -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I’ve been told that it has somehow untested conffile support. It looks like the best way to test it is on the contrary to expose it in the default install. What do you think? It's all my fault. I wrote that packagekit does not support conffile in IRC and Julien picked that up. Afterwards, I was informed in #PackageKit that I was not up-to-date and that we do have conffile support apparently. We should thus close that bug here for now, and see if it works correctly, and if so, close 606025 as well (the bug tracking that in packagekit). -- Julian Andres Klode - Debian Developer, Ubuntu Member See http://wiki.debian.org/JulianAndresKlode and http://jak-linux.org/. pgpy35yFbOD7a.pgp Description: PGP signature

OK, then e.g. tag it as moreinfo instead. The point is, we should have it in the default install for now to test things with more users than we'd have otherwise. -- Julian Andres Klode - Debian Developer, Ubuntu Member See http://wiki.debian.org/JulianAndresKlode and http://jak-linux.org/. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Oh crap. With all the time they spent saying finally it was appropriate for Debian, it’s still not doing the basics. Thanks for the heads-up. -- .''`.
