On armhf machines, kernel has been upgraded, therefore eclipse has been given

kernel
has not yet been upgraded.

FYI I received a message from Xerxes Rånby that he was able to build Eclipse 
3.7.1 on armel with this configuration:

xranby@panda-oneiric:~$ uname -a
Linux panda-oneiric 3.0.0-1206-omap4 #15-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Wed Jan 4 13:17:27 
UTC 2012 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux
xranby@panda-oneiric:~$ java -version
java version 1.6.0_24
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.11.1pre+ra5c946d5f4bc) (Ubuntu build 
1.6.0_24-b24)
OpenJDK Zero VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode)

(It is a pandaboard running oneiric.)

His .deb files can be downloaded at[1]

Our current openjdk in armel sid is:

debian-armel:~# java -version
java version 1.6.0_24
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.11pre) (6b24~pre4-1)
OpenJDK Zero VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode)

We would like to try a build of eclipse on arm{el,hf}.  However, it may
require a kernel upgrade on the buildds[1].  As far as I can tell,
linux-2.6/3.2.1-1 carries those patches[2].

There is also an open issue in openjdk-7 (#654209) on armel, but we got
a report suggesting that eclipse could be built on armel with 6b24~pre2
(hench the dw below).  To be honest, I suspect the dw is a no-op at this
point, but for completeness:

  gb eclipse_3.7.1-1 . armel armhf
  dw eclipse_3.7.1-1 . armel armhf . -m openjdk-7-jdk (= 6b24~pre4)

But I cannot figure out the gb/dw invocation for ensuring the running
kernel version. :P

According to [1], 3.2 has the first patch and the changelog contains:

* [arm] backport topdown mmap support from rmk's tree

which appears to match the description of the second patch mentioned in [1].

We are aware of it, build daemons are not yet ready, we will proceed
with it as soon as build system is ready (ensuring linux-2.6/3.2.1-1
is installed or at very least kernel is patched with those patches
listed in [1]).
