Would you please take a look at http://www.cups.org/str.php?L4053 This seems very much like the description in your report. The bad news is that the fix will not appear until the 1.6.x series of CUPS is in Debian, so nothing for testing/unstable at present. There is also the matter of your not being to print with lp. This could be a different bug, so all I can suggest is that you get as up-to-date as you can and report back. I have to stay on this one until a working new one is available. As I switch off all that mad broadcasting stuff it should be safe. The web interface in particular behaved as it normally does. This was using your cupsd.conf as well as mine. Please would you look at the issues again and report back if there is a change in the usabilty of the package for you. Some minutes ago I did release the holds and updated again, now to 1.5.2-6. Unfortunately with the same result. The following is the complete output of the command line: --- ikki: ?0 !1005 ~ lpq ikki: ?0 !1006 ~ lpstat -t ikki: ?0 !1007 ~ --- Note that my command prompt is two line, so the two lines between a command has nothing to do with the bug. Please note that I misinterpreted a usability bug in the web frontend to be related with this bug. I tried to klick Verwaltung-Verfügbare Drucker auflisten and nothing happens. But if I click on Drucker in the header line I can see my printer. This is another bug but one that I can live with as I never use the web frontend. I am going back to the working versions. By the way, I have to hold the following packages to the noted versions: cups 1.5.0-16 cups-bsd 1.5.0-16 cups-client 1.5.0-16 cups-common 1.5.0-16 cups-driver-gutenprint 5.2.7-4 cups-ppdc 1.5.0-16 gimp-gutenprint 5.2.7-4 gutenprint-doc 5.2.7-4 gutenprint-locales 5.2.7-4 libcups2 1.5.0-16 libcupscgi1 1.5.0-16 libcupsimage2 1.5.0-16 libcupsmime1 1.5.0-16 libcupsppdc1 1.5.0-16 libgutenprint2 5.2.7-4 libgutenprintui2-1 5.2.7-4 printer-driver-gutenprint 5.2.7-4 Maybe that helps to track the bug.
