Bug#666714: emacs: Emacs 23.4+1-2 freezes with 100% CPU usage with option --daemon
Package: emacs Version: 23.4+1-2 Followup-For: Bug #666714 As additional info, Emacs in text mode in my computer (i.e. `emacs -nw` or plain `emacs` without a DISPLAY environment variable) hangs after showing the "Welcome to GNU Emacs" screen. However, running `emacs` with normal GUI support, then running `server-start` from there lets me open and close `emacsclient` frames normaly, and closing the main Emacs frame afterwards doesn't result in it getting frozen. So if you have a running X session, keeping a main Emacs frame open and starting the server in there may help as a termporary workaround for running clients. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ca_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ca_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages emacs depends on: ii emacs23 23.4+1-2 emacs recommends no packages. emacs suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#666714: emacs: Emacs 23.4+1-2 freezes with 100% CPU usage with option --daemon
Hello, If this can help, I also managed to reproduce the bug by: 1) launch a new session by "emacs" => OK 2) launch from it a server by "M-x server-start" => OK 3) launch new clients by "emacsclient -c" => OK 4) close all the emacs frames but one => OK 5) close the last open frame => emacs freezes (with an empty frozen X window), no more possibility to connect to client, 100% CPU use So it seems that the problems occurs when the server is running with no client connected to it. Bug#666714: emacs: Emacs 23.4+1-2 freezes with 100% CPU usage with option --daemon
Package: emacs23 Version: 23.4+1-2 Followup-For: Bug #666714 I also encountered this. Two more things: 1. Downgrading all dependencies to testing resolves the issue (surprise). Upgrading libglib alone from 2.30 to 2.32 brings it back. So it's somewhere there. 2. Also, staring emacs in text mode makes it freeze with 100% cpu. While I did not try to check if it is again glib 2.32 which is the cause, I have a guess, that the new glib is somehow unhappy if there is no X connection. Cheers, Itai. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (600, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.utf8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages emacs23 depends on: ii emacs23-bin-common 23.4+1-2 ii gconf-service 3.2.3-4 ii libasound2 1.0.25-2 ii libatk1.0-0 2.4.0-2 ii libc6 2.13-27 ii libcairo2 1.12.0-2 ii libdbus-1-3 1.5.12-1 ii libfontconfig1 2.8.0-3.1 ii libfreetype62.4.9-1 ii libgconf-2-43.2.3-4 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.26.0-2 ii libgif4 4.1.6-9 ii libglib2.0-02.32.0-3 ii libgpm2 1.20.4-4 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.10-1 ii libice6 2:1.0.7-2 ii libjpeg88d-1 ii libm17n-0 1.6.3-1 ii libncurses5 5.9-5 ii libotf0 0.9.12-1 ii libpango1.0-0 1.30.0-1 ii libpng12-0 1.2.47-2 ii librsvg2-2 2.36.0-5 ii libsm6 2:1.2.0-2 ii libtiff43.9.6-1 ii libtinfo5 5.9-5 ii libx11-62:1.4.4-4 ii libxft2 2.2.0-3 ii libxpm4 1:3.5.9-4 ii libxrender1 1:0.9.6-2 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.6.dfsg-2 emacs23 recommends no packages. Bug#666714: emacs: Emacs 23.4+1-2 freezes with 100% CPU usage with option --daemon
Package: emacs Version: 23.4+1-2 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, If I start emacs with --daemon, it freezes with 100% CPU usage, I am unable to connect with emacsclient. Adding option -Q does not help. There is no problem if I start it normally without any options. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-686-pae (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages emacs depends on: ii emacs23 23.4+1-2 emacs recommends no packages. emacs suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
