Bug#671928: enigmail: fails to decrypt message

2012-05-20 Thread Robert Pommrich
Hi,

After reinstalling icedove 11 and enigmail 1.4.1exp-1 decryption works
again as expected. This bug report can be closed.

Thanks for your efforts.

Bug#671928: enigmail: fails to decrypt message

2012-05-13 Thread Robert Pommrich
Hi,

This does not work for me with icedove 11 and enigmail 1.4.1exp-1 (and
1.4.1-2). This is what I tried all the time.

 Just to be clear:

icedove 10 works with enigmail 1.4.1-2
icedove 11 works with enigmail 1.4.1exp-1

As I wrote above, not for me.

Other combinations are not supported - they are binary incompatible.

Hi!

Yes, the problem decrypting the attachment remains, but at least
the text part of message is decrypted with icedove 11 and enigmail
 1.4.1exp-1.

Actually, you can decrypt the attachment via right-click on it and
selecting one of the Decrypt and .. actions. At least, that works
for me. Upstream told me about this entry, but since it wasn't even
obvious to me, I've asked whether having Open and Save always act on
the decrypted attachments would be possible.

I think, this is not what one always wants. This would make it
impossible to save the encrypted attachment. And perhaps one of a
million wants to look at the encrypted attachment directly ;-).

Seriously, I think the bug should be fixed somehow, introducing features
never resolved bugs.

This is weird as the combination of icedove 10.0.3 and enigmail 1.4 work
like a charm on my stable machine.

 To me,
this looks like a normal bug in upstream (apart from the fact that
enigmail 1.4.1-1 does not work with icedove 11 from experimental,
which is another, but less serious issue).

Nor does 1.4.1-2. But I see, that there's a version 1.4.1exp-1. I could
give that a try or do advise against that?

Actually, that's what I wanted to ask you next, but I didn't want to ask
you immediately after the upload as the package takes some time to be
pushed to the mirrors. So please test 1.4.1exp-1 - this version was
built for icedove 11, but shows the same decryption problem with
encrypted attachments as far as I tested.

Bug#671928: enigmail: fails to decrypt message

2012-05-09 Thread Willi Mann
Hi!

 http://enigmail.mozdev.org/download/download-static.php.html

 Enigmail 1.4.1 is for Thunderbird/Icedove 11:

 Thunderbird 11.0 Enigmail 1.4.1

 Thunderbird 10.0 Enigmail 1.4

I asked upstream before I uploaded enigmail 1.4.1 for icedove 10. He
told me that he did not test this combination, but he is not aware of
any actual incompatibilities. This reason I wanted to provide a new
version was that enigmail 1.4 has broken translations for many languages.

On another machine I have Icedove 10.0.3 from backports
with enigmail 1.4 which works fine.
So, Enigmail 1.4.1 should work with Icedove 11 and
btw also with Icedove 12 which is not in debian, yet,
 as it exists for this.

I'll first build enigmail 1.4.1 for icedove 11. If the bug is still
reproducible, then this would be a clear sign that the bug is not caused
by any incompatibility, which would then allow to actually trace the bug
down to the commit that introduced it.

BTW: I'd like to be able to reproduce this bug, particularly the problem
that remains with icedove 10 (The icedove 11 issue is probably because
my build was for icedove 10). Can you create a message that demonstrates
the problem, please?

message that is encrypted and contains an encrypted attachment. If this
is what you want, shall I send such a message also to the bts or just to
you?

Yes, please. The few encrypted messages I've around here don't trigger
the bug, so I'm not able to estimate how common the problem is.

Hi!

So, here comes the first test message with a encrypted picture

The messages I have problems to decrypt were also sent by icedove

This is getting weird. I can decrypt the message and I can decrypt the
attachment.

 % dpkg -l enigmail icedove

ii icedove 10.0.3-3 ...

Apart from preparing an upload of enigmail 1.4.1 for icedove 11, I'm

Bug#671928: enigmail: fails to decrypt message

2012-05-08 Thread Willi Mann
Hi!

Thanks for your report.

 Severity: important

 Dear Maintainer,

enigmail fails to decrypt encrypted messages.
Versions of packages enigmail depends on:
 ii gnupg1.4.12-4
 ii icedove 11.0-1
 ii libc62.13-32
 ii libgcc1 1:4.7.0-7
 ii libnspr4-0d 4.9-1
 ii  libstdc++6   4.7.0-7

According to the depends info, you are using icedove 11 from
experimental. Can you reproduce the bug with icedove 10? If yes, I'll
take a closer look at this bug, otherwise, I'll ignore it as long as I
have no build specifically for icedove 11.

I just tried with icedove 10.0.3. Now the message is decrypted,
but an attachment is not decrypted, throwing this error:

After

http://enigmail.mozdev.org/download/download-static.php.html

Enigmail 1.4.1 is for Thunderbird/Icedove 11:

Thunderbird 11.0 Enigmail 1.4.1

Thunderbird 10.0 Enigmail 1.4

On another machine I have Icedove 10.0.3 from backports
with enigmail 1.4 which works fine.
So, Enigmail 1.4.1 should work with Icedove 11 and
btw also with Icedove 12 which is not in debian, yet,
as it exists for this.
