same problem here - random freezes of whole display (gdm3?) - not sure though
if problem comes from gnome3 or xorg because I don't have possibility to go to
a terminal and check the system state.

It's not the same problem, please don't hijack somebody else's report.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#674818: xserver-xorg: X randomly freezes

2012-05-28 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Touko Korpela touko.korp...@iki.fi (28/05/2012):
Any chance to make at least synaptics and xserver-xorg-video-radeon
migrate faster to testing (they are now over 6-7 days old) ?

Yes. I initially uploaded with “low” urgency (meaning 10 days) because I
wasn't sure about possible regressions. The low amount of bug reports
tends to point out there aren't too many of them, that's why I'm aging
those as follows:
| kibi@franck:~$ head -4 hints/kibi
| # 20120528
| # both seem to have the announced fixes, with no big, fat regressions:
| age-days 7 xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/1.6.1-1
| age-days 8 xserver-xorg-video-ati/1:6.14.4-4

They should migrate during the next run (1/2 hour from now).

Mraw,
KiBi.

severity 674818 important
thanks

debianizzato fireswo...@yahoo.it (28/05/2012):
 Severity: critical
 Justification: causes serious data loss

Nope.

Suddenly the screen becomes unresponsive: the mouse pointer moves
normally, but the windows do not respond to clicks, and gnome-shell
does not work. I have to go on tty1 and issue the command
/etc/init.d/gdm3 restart to reset the interface.
This is repeated again within a few minutes.

I do not know if attachments are sufficient to understand the problem:
it usually occurs while using iceweasel 10.0.4, Eclipse 3.7.2,
 nautilus 3.4.2, gnome terminal 3.4.1.1

Yes they are sufficient, probably a synaptics bug.

Versions of packages xserver-xorg depends on:
[…]
 ii xserver-xorg-input-synaptics [xorg-driver-i 1.6.0-1

Upgrade that one to 1.6.1-1, and enjoy the bug fixes.

Mraw,
KiBi.
